Health Education Section

The Health Education Section was established in February 2003 for health educators and others working in the health education field.

Health Educators from local health departments across the state had been meeting as the Health Educators' Network for years first under the direction of DHMH and then independently since 1997. In 2002, the Network members agreed to support the application to become an MdPHA Section and the application was approved the following spring by the MdPHA Board.

The purpose of the Section is to:

  • Provide networking and training opportunities to members,
  • Increase recognition of health education as a discipline within the medical field, and
  • Advocate for advancement of professionals working in the health education field.

The mission of the Section is to:

  • Improve healthy decision making in Maryland through prevention, education, awareness and promotion.
